A Whole Pilates Journey

Six years ago, I found myself flat on my back after shoveling snow from a winter storm. I had always been an avid athlete and dancer, and now I was struggling to get out of bed and sit in a chair. The verdict was three partial herniations in my lower back. Being a physical therapist, I began the well familiar journey of rehabilitation. A year later I was nearly hopeless that I would ever recover my previous physical abilities, let alone, go one day without chronic pain. It was in this place I was introduced to a rehabilitative form of Pilates that radically changed my understanding of the human body. I started seeing small ways I was progressing, like doing a load of laundry with little to no pain. I began walking long distances and then eventually riding my bike, light jogs, and of course, dancing. Dancing has always been a passion of mine, but since the incident, I had convinced myself I might never be able to do it again. Now today after giving myself to the study and practice of Pilates and partnering it with whole food nutrition, I enjoy the life God intended for my physical body without pain or restriction. - Jennifer Lawrence, DPT, PMA-CPT, & Co-Founder of Whole Pilates Studio

This story and countless more like it are the reason Spirit of Health has opened the Whole Pilates Studio. The studio provides a place for safe healing movement to occur for every individual, no matter their activity level. We believe that the integration of total body movement with whole body health can bring about improved alignment and vitality for each individual.

Our modern lifestyles and culture are direct contributors to dysfunctional patterns that can cause chronic pain as well as muscular and postural imbalances within our bodies.  Pilates is an ideal way to experience the integration of mind and body and is a vital key to bringing balance back to the body. Pilates originated in the 1920’s by Joseph Pilates as a method of exercise to increase the body’s overall flexibility, strength, endurance, and control. The Pilates principles are applicable today as practicing Pilates regularly helps you build a strong, flexible, uniformly well-developed body.  At Whole Pilates Studio, our goal is to improve the alignment and movement of the body from a whole body perspective. Pilates can be catered to the high functioning athlete looking to enhance performance, as well as the aging population desiring freedom of movement and function and anyone in between.

All of our instructors come with a wealth of knowledge of the human body. In addition to our current physical therapy and Pilates practices, we each have over a decade of instructional experience in artistic movement and dance. We also carry certified specialties and training in Pilates for osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis and neurological dysfunction as well as the pre & post-natal client.  Whole Pilates Studio offers a safe and unique movement experience to increase body awareness, fitness, and functional movement.  Clients can choose to work one-on-one or in a small group setting tailored towards reaching their individual goals.
